Moscow hosted the conference “Mission Abroad of the Russian Orthodox Church”
On May 24, 2022, as part of the Missionary Direction of the XXX International Educational Readings, a large conference “Mission Abroad of the Russian Orthodox Church” was held in the assembly hall of the Synodal Missionary Department.
The conference was opened by the announcement of the Greetings of the chairman of the conference, Metropolitan Leonid of Klin, Patriarchal Exarch of Africa, who at that time was on his first pastoral visit to Africa. Then, the welcoming speech of the Chairman of the Synodal Missionary Department, Bishop Euthymiy of Lukhovitsky, was delivered to all participants of the conference. After that, Priest and missionary Alexander Permyakov gave an introductory speech on the mission abroad.
In the first part of the conference, priests and missionaries from Russia and a number of dioceses from far abroad spoke about the current experience of the Orthodox mission on different continents of the world – in Africa, South and Central America, Cuba, Cambodia, and Taiwan.
The clerics of two dioceses of our Church spoke about the experience of the Orthodox mission, its problems and prospects in the Asian region – Hieromonk Paisios (Ipate), temporary Dean of the Cambodian Deanery of the Diocese of Thailand; and Priest Kirill Shkarbul, Dean of the parishes of the Russian Orthodox Church in Taiwan.
In the second part of the conference, speeches were made on missionary projects and the experience of missionary work with foreigners in Russia.
The conference “Mission Abroad of the Russian Orthodox Church” has become a good platform for meeting, discussing current issues, and exchanging missionary experience of Orthodox priests and missionaries, carrying their service in Russia and on different continents of the world, as they are in need of mutual communication and interaction.
