The Primate of the Russian Church Meets with Delegation from Patriarchal Exarchate of Southeast Asia

On 18 July 2026, following the Divine Liturgy on Cathedral Square of the Holy Trinity-St. Sergiy Lavra, in the Church of the Righteous Philaret the Merciful, located in the Patriarchal Chambers of the Lavra, a meeting took place between His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Rus’ and a delegation from the Patriarchal Exarchate of Southeast Asia.

The delegation, which arrived in the Russian Federation, includes representatives of Orthodox parishes, including clergy of the Diocese of Singapore, which unites the parishes of the Russian Orthodox Church in Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, Papua New Guinea, and Timor-Leste.

The purpose of the visit is to venerate the holy sites and relics of the Russian Orthodox Church, participate in divine services, become acquainted with Russia’s historic and spiritual centers, and strengthen the fraternal ties between the Orthodox communities of the Russian Orthodox Church in Southeast Asia and Russia.

Greeting the Primate of the Russian Orthodox Church, the Patriarchal Exarch of Southeast Asia, Metropolitan Sergiy of Singapore and Southeast Asia, expressed his gratitude to His Holiness for his support and pastoral care for the development of Church life in one of the world’s most densely populated macro-regions. According to the Exarch, the combined population of the countries within the pastoral responsibility of the Patriarchal Exarchate of Southeast Asia – Singapore, Timor-Leste, Vietnam, Indonesia, Cambodia, the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, the Republic of Korea, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Papua New Guinea, Thailand, and the Philippines—is approaching one billion.

His Holiness then congratulated Metropolitan Sergiy on his name day and presented him with a Gospel book for travelers.

To all members of the pilgrimage delegation, the Primate of the Russian Church presented English-language copies of his book “Freedom and Responsibility: In Search of Harmony. Human Rights and Human Dignity”, explaining the reasons for writing it and its contents.

At the conclusion of the meeting, His Holiness Patriarch Kirill also presented all the participants with commemorative medals and icons.
