Archbishop Feofan of Korea led the work of the conference “External Mission of the Russian Orthodox Church” at Nativity Readings in Moscow

On January 24, as part of the XXXI International Educational Nativity Readings and one of its directions -“Missionary service of the Russian Orthodox Church”, a conference dedicated to the “External Mission of the Russian Orthodox Church” was held at the Synodal Missionary Department. The conference was chaired by Archbishop Theofan of Korea, Administrator of the Korean Diocese of the Patriarchal Exarchate of South-East Asia. The work of the conference was supervised by the Deputy Chairman of the Synodal Missionary Department for Foreign Mission Priest Dionysius Grishkov and a member of the Academic Council and teacher of the Orthodox Missionary School at the SMO Elena Sergeevna Maler.

The first part of the conference was devoted to the mission of the Russian Orthodox Church in different regions of the world. The speech of Archbishop Theofan of Korea was devoted to the history and current state of the Russian Ecclesiastical Mission in Korea. And Hieromonk Paisios (Ipate), the acting Dean of the Cambodian Deanery of the Thai Diocese, spoke about the Orthodox mission in Cambodia; Priest David Grubbs, Cleric of the Philippine-Vietnamese Diocese, shared with the conference participants about the process of implementing a diverse charitable program of the diocese for needy residents of the Philippines. The reports of the other invited speakers were also presented.

The theme of the second part of the conference was devoted to the experience of the Orthodox mission among the heterodox and citizens of other states living in Russia, as well as the problem of preparing translations of liturgical and spiritual literature into foreign languages.

The conference was held in a hybrid format, harmoniously combining in-person communication with remote presentations of the participants and served as a good platform for the exchange of missionary experience.

On June 1, 2026, on the feast of the Holy Spirit, Metropolitan of Singapore and Southeast Asia Sergiy, the Patriarchal Exarch of Southeast Asia; and Metropolitan of Manila and Hanoi Pavel, administrator of the Philippines-Vietnam Diocese, celebrated the Divine Liturgy at the Patriarchal Metochion of the Church of the Life-Giving Trinity in Ostankino, Moscow.

On 1 February 2026, the Russian Orthodox Church prayerfully marks the 17th anniversary of the enthronement of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Rus’. In all churches and monasteries, prayers are offered for the Primate of the Church, who was elected to the Patriarchal Throne of Moscow at the Local Council of 2009.
